This Fox and Sac chief's name, Ne-Sou-A-Quoit, means "the bear in the forks of a tree." He was said to be a full six feet tall and was "a model of manly symmetry." This image was painted by Charles Bird King (1785-1862) with Ne-Sou-A-Quoit wearing a fancy headdress, necklace, earrings, a fur shoulder garment, and a portrait medallion around his neck. Published ca. 1837.
