Al. G. Field first appeared in 1871 as a member of a minstrel troupe. He created a show of his own, a white blackface minstrel troupe. It debuted in 1886 in Marion, Ohio. His shows were a great success. He presented a brand new show every season, complete with elaborate costumes, special acts, music, and novelties of many kinds.
