The Civil War Battle of Fort Donelson took place near the Tennessee-Kentucky border from April 11 to 16, 1862. The battle changed the course of the American Civil War. The assault against the Confederate fort was led by Union Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. The battle ended in victory for the Union forces when the 12,000-man garrison surrendered unconditionally. This color lithograph was created ca. 1887.
