The Civil War Battle of Fredericksburg took place in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia. It commenced in the morning of December 13, 1862 as the Army of the Potomac crossed the Rappahannock under the command of Generals Burnside, Sumner, Hooker, and Franklin. They fought against the forces of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. The battle involved nearly 200,000 troops. Lee's men turned back the Union combatants with nearly 13,000 casualties.This color lithograph was created ca. 1888.
