The stands are packed with fans at this game between the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Note the athletic gear worn at this time by the referee, batter, and the catcher, Roger Bresnahan. Breshnahan (1879-1944) was nicknamed "The Duke of Tralee" because of his Irish roots. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945. Photographed during the game on September 18, 1908.
