Standing at the edge of this oftentimes bubbling mud pot are the photographer's wife and son. Lily V. Snyder Haynes and Jack E. Haynes. A mud pot has a limited amount of water, and so boils and bubbles instead of erupting in a column. The Fountain Paint Pot is in Yellowstone's west-central region. Photographed ca. 1895 by F. Jay Haynes.
