Description: Captain Bean, from Company D of the Minnesota National Guard, sits on a rock to appreciate an impressive view of the Lower Falls. At the falls, the Yellowstone River surges 308 feet into Yellowstone's Grand Canyon. This vantage point afforded a spectacular view of the gorge and still does today. Photographed in 1893 by F. Jay Haynes.
