The writing of the Declaration of Independence was no small feat. Shown here in 1776, as imagined later, are Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams. They met at Jefferson's home on the corner of Seventh and High (Market) streets in Philadelphia to review one of several early drafts of the Declaration of Independence. The artist, J. L. G. (Jean Leon Gerome) Ferris (1863-1930), trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He is most famous for his series of 78 scenes from American history called The Pageant of a Nation. Published ca. 1932.
