This colored lithograph was made from a commissioned painting of Moa-Na-Hon-Ga, an Ioway (Iowa) chief from what is now the state of Iowa and parts of surrounding states. These paintings showed a number of the tribal chiefs who were in Washington DC for a meeting. The chiefs received Medals of Peace from President Andrew Jackson. The paintings were destroyed by fire, but a book created from these paintings remains. The original color lithograph was first published in ca. 1837.
