In this striking studio portrait of the Oglala Sioux chief, Left Hand Bear was posed wearing a beaded vest, a kerchief, and a buffalo--skin sash decorated with round metallic disks. He is holding a bow and a fixed-head war club. Photographed ca. 1899.
