These snow-shoed winter visitors gaze from a distance at the spectacular eruption of the Giantess Geyser, an unpredictable geyser known for its infrequent but violent eruptions. The Giantess spews upward in several bursts, as high as 100 to 200 feet. Photographed in 1887 by F. Jay Haynes.
