Gen. George G. Meade (1815-1872) had commands in many major battles including Seven Days, Mechanicsville, Gaines Mill, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Falmouth, and Chancellorsville. He commanded the Army of the Potomac from Gettysburg onward, serving under Grant until Appomattox.
