The first inauguration was held on April 30, 1789, in New York City. This lithograph depicts the large crowd of people cheering as the first president of the United States, George Washington, passed by. That evening, following the inauguration, a celebration was opened and closed with 13 sky rockets and 13 cannon blasts.
