This photo was taken in July 1862 and shows the crew of the Monitor relaxing on deck. Here, for a brief respite, they have escaped the murky quarters below deck. They are idling in the sunshine, playing checkers, or reading letters. In December 1862, the Monitor sank off Hatteras, taking 16 of her crew with her.

All images reproduced on embossed canvas mounted to either 3/16” or 1/2” Ultra Board.
