This photograph, taken in July 1863, shows three Confederate soldiers that were taken prisoner during the Battle of Gettysburg. The men and their outfit are not identified. They are facing an uncertain fate in a Union prison camp where conditions were often as harsh or even worse than what they faced in the field.
