This print was made from a painting called Castle Garden, New York, painted by Andrew Melrose ca. 1887. Castle Garden was America's first official immigration center, from 1855 to 1890. Today it is called Castle Clinton National Monument and is a major landmark within the Battery, a 25-acre waterfront park at the tip of Manhattan.
