"The Thames" was painted by French painter James Tissot (born Jacques Joseph Tissot, 1836-1902). Tissot moved to London in 1871.The oil painting shows a pair of well-dressed young women under umbrellas and an English gentleman on an afternoon excursion on the Thames. The Thames flows through southern England, most notably through London. It is the longest river in England at 215 miles in length.
