"The Nut Gatherers" shows two young girls outside picking nuts from the ground. It was painted in 1882 by French artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905). The original hangs in the Detroit Institute of Arts. It was donated by William E. Scripps in 1954 and is one of the most popular paintings in the museum's collection.
