This shows a portrait of the Saukie chief Ma-Ka-Tai-Me-She-Kia-Kiah, or Black Hawk. This head-and-shoulders pose pictures him with a blanket draped over his left shoulder, wearing many earrings and a portrait medallion around his neck. The Sauk/Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri people and their ancestors lived in Canada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. This lithograph was published ca. 1838.
