This view shows some of the ruined buildings of Charleston, South Carolina, after the American Civil War. The photo was shot through the porch of the Circular Church at 150 Meeting Street. At the base of a pillar sit four African-American boys, each barefoot despite wearing hats and jackets. Photographed by George N. Barnard in April 1865.
