These women, dressed in the baggy sports clothes of the day, were playing baseball in front of the Lincoln Memorial, located on the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Lincoln Memorial opened in 1922, several years after this photo was taken. Construction took place over eight years. Then, as now, baseball games were held daily on these fields between rival government departments, restaurant employees, etc. Photographed ca. 1919.
