"The Starry Night was painted in June 1889 by Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). It shows van Gogh's vision of the scene outside his east-facing window at the asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. It is framed in the light just before sunrise. "The Starry Night" is one of the most recognized paintings in the world. The original oil on canvas is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
