This galaxy has been called "the galaxy that shouldn't exist" because 13.8 billion years ago, when the universe was born, there was none of what astronomers call dust (elements such as carbon, oxygen, and iron). The first galaxies were made only of gas, no dust. This very old galaxy is part of a massive cluster of galaxies called Abell 1689. This image was captured by the Hubble Telescope.
