The Civil War Battle of Five Forks took place southwest of Petersburg, Virginia, on April 1, 1865--8 days before the surrender at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. The battle raged around the road junction of Five Forks in Dinwiddie County during the end of the Seige of Petersburg. It was a confrontation of troops led by Union Gen. Philip Sheridan and Confederate Gen. George Pickett. The battle ended in victory for the Union forces. This color lithograph was created ca. 1886.
