Ojibwa artist Joe F. Geshick (1943-2009) was born in Minnesota and raised on the Nett Lake Indian Reservation. He was a member of the Bois Fort Band. He began painting at age 19. Of his work, he says, "My work connects me to the natural elements of earth and with other life forms. I am motivated to paint by the constant cultural and spiritual change in our society as we see it today. I want people to feel and experience the calmness and simplicity of life in earlier times."
