The Maricopa (a tribe in southern Arizona) made good use of the desert's bountiful crops, including the fruit growing atop the tall saguaro. Although titled to the contrary, this photograph was taken at the wrong time of the year for gathering saguaro fruit. Photographed in 1907 by Edward S. Curtis.
