This painting was created in 1994 by self-taught artist Leonard F. Chana (1950-2004), a member of the Tohono O'odham tribe. He painted it from memories of his childhood. He remembered that as a little boy, he was tasked with carrying water to his mother and Aunt Molly as they harvested the saguaro fruit of the Arizona Sonora Desert once it had ripened to a bright red color.
