A hike through The Narrows of Zion National Park was and is today a strenuous, full-day trek. The Narrows is a narrow section of canyon on the North Fork of the Virgin River with walls a thousand feet high. Much of such a trip involves wading through the river, as there is no trail. Zion National Park was established in 1909 as Mukuntuweap National Monument and was designated a national park in 1919.
