This color lithograph of Keokuk, Chief of the Sacs & Foxes, was drawn, printed, and colored by John T. Bowen in the first half of the 19th century. Keokuk (1767–1848) was famous for cooperating with the US government in actions which led to war with Black Hawk. This engagement came to be known as the Black Hawk War.
