Union Col. Ambrose Everett Burnside posed with eight officers in front of a sign reading "Col. Burnside, Welcome Home." The men are officers from the 1st Rhode Island Volunteers at Camp Sprague. This photograph was taken in 1861, just after Col. Burnside returned home after the battle of First Manassas.
