The man in this photo is thought to be Sioux, probably from northwestern Nebraska where Curtis was traveling during this time. This striking photograph is a posed shot. Full-sized eagles were not caught by hand but in a baited pit. Once in the pit, nets were thrown over the eagles. Photographed in 1908 by Edward S. Curtis.
