When a star dies, it explodes across the sky in an expanding wave of gas and dust known as a supernova nebula. This spectacular image shows only a small part of the after effects of the huge stellar explosion that happened about 15,000 years ago! The Cygnus Loop is just the edge of the blast wave. The image was captured in 1991 by the Hubble Space Telescope.
